We have recently been made aware of emails being received by some of our members that appear to be from the “OAR program.” It’s important to note that these emails are not from the Association for Opera in Canada (AOC). These emails are spam, and they are not affiliated with us in any way.
The OAR program was successfully completed and closed, and we will not be sending any further communication regarding this program. If you receive an email claiming to be from the OAR program, we urge you to exercise caution and follow these guidelines to protect yourself from email spam and spoofing fraud:
- Do Not Click on Suspicious Links: If you receive an email from an unfamiliar sender or containing unexpected attachments or links, do not click on them. These links may lead to phishing websites or download malicious software onto your device.
- Verify Sender’s Email Address: Always check the sender’s email address carefully. Legitimate emails from the AOC will come from our official domain, which is opera.ca. If the sender’s address looks suspicious or differs from our official domain, it’s likely a fraudulent email.
- Contact Us: If you are unsure about the legitimacy of an email claiming to be from the AOC, please contact us directly through our official website or by phone to verify its authenticity. We are here to assist you and can confirm whether the email is legitimate or not.
- Protect Your Personal Information: Never share personal or financial information via email, especially in response to unsolicited emails. Legitimate organizations will not request sensitive information via email.
- Use Strong Passwords: Ensure your email account is protected by a strong and unique password. Regularly update your passwords and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for an added layer of security.
