At the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Canada Council for the Arts (CCA) launched the Digital Originals Initiative, which provided $5,000 micro innovation grants to artists, groups, and organizations to adapt existing work or create new work for the public on a digital platform. CCA has released three big take-aways from the Digital Originals Initiative:
- There were over 4,200 applications from every province and all fields of practice
- Of the 1000+ grants delivered, 410 were to first-time recipients
- 44% of the grant recipients were Indigenous or from one of CCA’s equity priority groups.
