$385-$16,500 Professional Company Membership
Qualifications for Professional members:
Professional membership in the Corporation shall be limited to those incorporated non-share Canadian opera and music theatre companies interested in furthering the purpose of the Corporation. Such membership shall consist of any such Canadian company whose application for admission as a member has been approved by a vote of not less than one-half of the Board in compliance with this by-law.
In considering an application for admission as a Professional member, the Board may have regard to, among other things, whether the applicant meets the following criteria:
- Is a non-share corporation duly organized and existing under the laws of Canada or any province or territory of Canada whose repertory includes opera and/or music theatre and whose primary mission is the education of the community through the production and performance of opera and/or music theatre.
- Has produced and performed at least one staged or semi-staged work each season, before a paying audience, during the current season and each of the immediately preceding two seasons. For the purposes of this section, semi-staged work means a production that includes some stage direction through the presence of a stage director and a combination of costumes, props and/or scenic elements.
- Employs paid management of at least one full-time equivalent.
- Utilizes live paid professional soloists, musicians and other artists for at least some part of its productions.
As a condition of membership each applicant for Professional membership shall provide to the Corporation, along with its application, a copy of its most recent audited financial statements, two letters of reference from the head of another professional opera company, a completed Professional Opera Survey and such other documents or information as the Corporation may require from time to time.
By Board Resolution:
Conditions of membership are amended to allow for a letter of recommendation from a current PCM member or a similarly credentialed organization. Additionally, organizations applying for a professional company membership may submit a third party review engagement of finances in lieu of an audited f1nancial statement if that is not available.
Applications are reviewed by a Membership Committee once per quarter, and voted by the board at their subsequent meeting. Applications are now by rolling deadline.
