Epic Masterpiece Moby-Dick Makes Triumphant Canadian Premiere at Calgary Opera
After making waves with its world premiere at the Dallas Opera, and garnering critical acclaim at the State Opera of South Australia, Moby-Dick by Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer makes its much anticipated Canadian premiere in Calgary for three performances only, January 28 and February 1 & 3 at the Jubilee Auditorium.
This massive co-commission between the Dallas Opera, San Francisco Opera, San Diego Opera, Calgary Opera and the State Opera of South Australia is an opera heavyweight with over 96 thousand pounds of scenery and 500 individual pieces counting all rigging, planks, costumes, and one infamous peg-leg. Three extra days of set-up, two extra trucks and double the usual crew is needed to accommodate the size and complexity of the two million dollar production.
